Electoral Reform System

United Kingdom have had General Election last year. The political landscape have changed and we have the age old core deep seated conflict between parliamentarians and the people.

This UK General Election have changed things with people wanting Electoral Reform System which got me thinking that parts of the world has got the same problem. I find it hard to believe that it took us centuries to realise this age old core of deep seated conflict was the culprit of fighting for our rights and democracy. Here is why, and this is what happened after our General Election in UK. This is a copy from my other post on Democracy.

This has been a devastating blow with the Conservatives having won a majority and crossed the line. Voters were forced to vote tactically, rather than for who they really believe in. They wanted to fight for Britain we believe in. This election proved there needed to be a change in the voting system. We need a fairer and more reflective system as the voting system had handled us unfair results and unrepresentative governments. It denies voters real choice. Under a different system we could have our views fairly represented in Parliament as seats do not match votes. There has got to be reforms in the electoral system.

The link between a party's share of the vote, and the seats they get in Parliament has broken down completely. The two biggest parties took two thirds of the vote, but received more than four fifths of the seats. The other smaller parties with votes would almost make up the same numbers as Conservatives if they are against it. There was no real contest in more than half the seats. It is an unfair system with half the voters voting for Conservatives and the half voting for other parties. It is still a very close contest with half of the other voters being without justice and representation. It is a disaster for democracy.

We must have a fair and just proportional voting system so that anti-conservative voters do get representation in the Houses of Parliament. It should not be about geography. Voters should be in control, and not the parties. Anti-conservative voters should not be the silent voters. We must not be mistaken or ever forget votes from other parties do count, either in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England. Half of these voters in our country will always be disgruntled, angry, upset, disillusioned and disengaged. We cannot accept a split in the United Kingdom.

This calls for a new electoral reform before the next General Election at Christmas, Multi-Party Coalition, new Prime Minister or a President of the United Kingdom.

Weak leaders with unacceptable differences in politics and democracy, with United Kingdom in chaos as voters are split in General Elections as well as Party Leaderships.

There are more uncertainties and pessimism for Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England than over before. United Kingdom will never regain its stability and security needed unless we can make dramatic changes.

This proves that democracy is not working, and that a majority of the people were not represented. It seems like that the Conservatives were only looking after the Conservatives, and not the Anti-Conservatives which felt left out. The Anti-Conservatives are a neglected majority. This is called Democracy Deficit.

Democracy Deficit as I found out, existed around parts of the world like Ukraine, Syria, Libya, Yemen etc which have culminated in fighting for rights and freedom. If we did rectify the Democracy Deficit, then everyone would be happier and living more peacefully.

I have discovered when it came to analysing that, if we had an Electoral Reform System based on votes rather than on seats. We would not have Nationalists taking over one country like Scotland while at the same time there are other losing political parties who have gained votes as well as SNP (Scottish Nationalist Party). We have got Plaid Cymru (Welsh Nationalist Party) and Sinn Fein (Northern Ireland Nationalist Party) too.

Having a new Electoral Reform System will discourage Nationalists from forming in the first place to enable other political parties like Labour, UKIP, Liberal Democrats etc to represent their own people whether they are Scottish, Welsh or English.

This calls for United Kingdom to take action to make sure there is Electoral Reform System generally, that it is fair and just. The age old core deep seated conflict has to be tackled properly in order for democracy to effectively work.

It has been proved that the hung parliament and coalition does not work, as new conflicts, differences of policies in parties does not work.

22nd July 2016

I have been watching with interest about matters arising before adjournment in the House of Commons. I assume what matters has been raised, is passed to the Chief Whip afterwards. I have suprised myself thinking what I could have done, and that I could have dealt with all these matters within an hour.

One subject, I can only talk about is the lack of young people voting at 16 that has remained unsolved for a very long time. We cannot force young people to vote at 16, the reasons could be to do with differing party policies. I have not voted for a long time, and did not vote in the general election thinking one vote less would not improve, and I was right although it was a risk.

Anyway, I think young people who come of age who are eligible to vote should have their name put down in the electoral roll automatically. This also helps the census, identity, and the whereabouts of all young people in each area. Parents must have a duty to put their offspring's names down, and failing that, could be fined. This is because they cannot neglect and reject the rights of their young people who are eligible to vote, whether they want to or not.
